Player Nabs R17M Lotto Jackpot on Ticket Bought on Ithuba Website
COVID-19 has convinced many lottery players that the safest place to buy tickets right now is on the official lottery operator, Ithuba’s website. This was the case with an online Lotto player who recently won nearly R17 million after buying a number of Lotto tickets in May. The lucky draw took place on May 16th.
According to Ithuba: “The Lotto winner bagged an impressive R16,826,525, one of the biggest Lotto jackpots for 2020.”
Ithuba elaborated on the win, saying that the player used the national lottery website (www.nationallottery.co.za) to play the winning numbers.
These numbers were: 8, 10, 15, 27, 30, 49, with a bonus number of 6.
“The winner played two tickets on the day, one for R40 using the manual selection method and another for R20 to play the quick pick method, which was the winning ticket,” said Ithuba.
The Lotto operators said that since national lockdown was announced, online player participation has increased dramatically and there are now more than 900,0000 registered players. The South African government halted the sale of lottery tickets at local outlets and players turned to the online option to continue their lottery purchases.
The R17 million jackpot winner, however, will have to wait patiently for the chance to claim his prize, however. Coronavirus restrictions mean that lotto prizes can only be lifted once lockdown is officially over. There are already several new millionaires waiting to claim their prize from Ithuba.
A few weeks before the R17 million winner, another player’s purchase of R1,000 worth of lotto tickets paid off and he landed himself a R19 million prize. His ticket was purchased at the Rietfontein Pavilion Center in Pretoria. When news broke about the location, questions were asked about how he had managed to buy a ticket at a local outlet, despite the lockdown.
Ithuba was quick to explain: “Kindly note the winner played for future draws before retailers were not permitted to sell tickets.”
