powerball-Bigger-JackpotsSouth African lottery players can expect to win bigger jackpots in the near future, according to the operator of the National Lottery, Ithuba Holdings. In a media statement put out by the group, the Powerball game has been relaunched with larger prizes. In addition, a new game, Powerball Plus will be launched, which will complement the wide range of lottery games already offered by the National Lottery.

The changes to the Powerball means that players will be paying slightly more for their lottery tickets, said Ithuba. While tickets currently cost R3.50, their prices will go up to R5.00. The new games, at their new prices, will go live at lottery retailers in South Africa from November 28th, 2015.

There have been major improvements to the original Powerball game, according to Ithuba Holdings, including larger jackpots. Players stand to double the chance to win a prize in the new game. Where previously the odds were 1:34 to take home any prize, now they are 1:18 – a significant increase. The new Powerball has nine winning divisions, whereas the previous game had only eight.

The bottom tier fixed prizes have also improved through the new Powerball. Players only need to match the Powerball to win R10 or the Powerball and one more number to take home R15.

The chief executive officer of Ithuba Holdings, Charmaine Mabuza said that the group was addressing players’ needs through the latest enhancements of the lottery and the introduction of new games. Mabuza said that the changes would help keep the National Lottery and other game “thriving for years to come” and would ultimately deliver a more exciting lottery experience for players. According to the CEO, the introduction of the new game, Powerball Plus gave players an extra chance to win, and a minimum prize payout for the two lowest prize tiers.

Mabuza also stated: “We are making the lottery exciting and have already launched a test pilot in Gauteng of EaziWin, our new instant win game, which is based proudly on South African Heritage games PopaFeela, Morabaraba, Fafi Fortune and Four SiyaWina; the initial indications are that players have really taken to these games. There is more to come and we will be launching other new games that South Africans can enjoy.”

The privately owned Ithuba was awarded the operating license for the National Lottery and has promised to grow and modernize this institution.Click here for Lotto Results | Click here for Powerball Results
