SA Lottery Winners Spend Prizes on NecessitiesIthuba, South Africa’s lottery operator, has recently published the stories of several winners in the past few weeks. These tales just go to show that winning the lottery doesn’t need to be an unfulfilled dream, and that many got their happy ending by playing South African lottery games.

Construction Worker Wins R141 Million

A 50 year old construction worker played a R105 Quick Pick selection on the Powerball lottery and became the third richest Powerball winner in the country. The lucky man bought a ticket while on holiday in Mossel Bay with his family, and scooped the eye-watering sum of R141 million. Just a few weeks before the win, the man’s wife dreamed that she had seen gold particles sprinkled over her husband. The couple plans to invest the money in their children and grandchildren’s future and don’t plan to change their lifestyle too drastically.

Domestic Worker Wins R70 Million

A Pretoria woman who worked for 30 years as a domestic, plans to quit her job and buy a five-bedroom home after she won R70 million in the September 3rd Powerball Plus draw. The single mother of one spent just R7.50 on the ticket at her local Shell garage, and then put the ticket for safekeeping in her bible. The winner also plans to take her family to Cape Town for the holidays and treat herself to a smartphone.

R22 Million Powerball Winner

One of the latest Powerball draws saw one person yield R22 million, while thirteen more people won R15,200 each for guessing four correct numbers. Another player won R315,553 for guessing 5 numbers. The winning numbers were 24, 10, 15, 28, 50 and Powerball number 05.

R233 million Payouts in 2 Weeks

Earlier this month, Ithuba reported that it had paid more than R233 million worth of winnings in just two weeks.

“This is the largest combined jackpots payout in the history of the National Lottery and was paid out to multiple winners,” said Ithuba in a statement. “The payout is another record breaker by the third National Lottery Operator [which] took over lottery operations in 2015.”
