Play Rummy Online

Welcome to our Rummy game guide where we will look at the game’s basic rules and how to get started if you have never played rummy before. There are quite a few varieties of rummy, just as there are many poker variations. The most popular rummy variations include: Gin Rummy, traditional Rummy, Canasta, Kaluki, Oklahoma Gin, and many others. The game started out in the Old West and has seen many reincarnations over the years.

Where to Start

Rummy’s main objective is to be the first card player to get rid of all the cards in your hand by playing runs and sets. Although it’s easy to learn rummy, it’s quite another thing to master it, without months or even years of practice.

Rummy is a strategic card game. You will be more successful if you can make a mental note of which cards your opponents have thrown out and then try to figure out which cards they still have in their hands. It always helps if you have a good memory which will allow you to keep a mental tab on all cards played.

How to Play Rummy Online

Let’s get down to the basics. Two to eight players take part in a game of rummy and the object is to try and score the most points within a certain time limit. The game is played with a standard 52-card deck of cards and each player gets ten cards to start off with.

The player on the dealer’s left starts and the play then moves in a clockwise direction. Players each get a turn to draw cards, discard and build melds. Players all try to get rid of all their cards or to stop play (or knock) when they have more points.

Rummy melds consist of groups of 3+ cards of the same suit or rank. This means you have to try and get three or more of one number i.e. two’s in one meld or one set of diamonds consisting of a sequence i.e. one, two, three.
