netent-cuts-jobs-vows-to-increase-slots in-2019The online casino software group, NetEnt announced yesterday that, as part of a strategy to “increase profitability and competitiveness”, it would be letting go 55 of its employees in its Stockholm office. While this is bad news for the workers, the flip side is that NetEnt intends focusing on the creation of new games and has promised to increase its game production. According to NetEnt, players at South African-friendly NetEnt powered online casinos can look forward to the release of up to 35 new titles during the course of next year.

“By decentralizing our operations we take another step towards a new NetEnt, where customers and players are in focus,” said NetEnt chief executive Therese Hillman. “The new organization will have clearer responsibilities and more emphasis on value-creating initiatives.”

NetEnt said in its Wednesday statement that the streamlining and restructuring of the organization would lead to staff reductions in Stockholm. The company has a total global workforce of about 1000 people. The reorganization of the company is expected to result in non-recurring costs of around €2.4 million or R38.5 million and the amount will be seen in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The NetEnt announcement also briefly mentioned the axing of a virtual reality project that the company wasn’t successful with. This resulted in a R7.7 million loss, described by the company as a “write-down of intangible assets regarding a development project in the area of virtual reality.”

In the meantime, NetEnt released a new slots title to its games platform, Wild-O-Tron 3000. The new game comes swiftly on the heels of the recently launched Vikngs branded slot and the seasonal-themed Jingle Spins slot.

NetEnt describes Wild-O-Tron 3000 as “a science fiction themed video slot” that is set in a robotics lab in the ‘60s. This classic five reel, 20 pay line game takes players back to a time “when the genre was popularized”.

“Packed with cyborgs and transforming robots, Wild-O-Tron 3000 will resonate with sci-fi fans and gamers that love stacks and wild symbol-driven games,” said the games products director for NetEnt, Bryan Upton. “With easy-to-understand, obvious player value mechanics, a medium volatility profile and an interesting graphics package, this game can offer an all-round fun and entertaining experience with a strong potential for big wins.”
